The parish life commission is in need of members who have a vision for what a parish could and should be. This commission meets at least six times a year to discuss how to enhance life at Good Shepherd parish.
Family Life Committee:
This committee is described as the Domestic Church. This committee provides activities and opportunities for Family Life development and enrichment.
Coffee & Doughnuts:
Participants serve refreshments to parishioners and guests from 10:00-11:00 am, following Sunday’s Mass. Volunteers are needed to start the coffee ahead-of-time, and then serve the refreshments. This is an excellent opportunity for fellowship, and a great way to meet new people.
Parish Hog Roast Committee:
The parish hog roast is a day set aside each Summer to enjoy fellowship and mark the beginning of another calendar year. Parishioners are invited to bring a dish, share in the food and friendship of others, and enjoy a wonderful Sunday afternoon. Members are needed to help plan the event, prepare food, set-up and help clean-up following the picnic.
Golf Outing:
Each year, the parish organizes a golf outing to benefit Central Catholic School. If you have the time, talent, resources, energy or game to help us move this event forward, won’t you please consider calling the office at 783-3158 to learn how you can help?
Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) Participants:
This group meets weekly (currently Sundays) for teen social activities. All teens and their friends are welcome to participate, and the group offers a wide range of activities from sports to service to social events.
Parish Bulletin:
The parish bulletin is published weekly and contains information relating to parish, diocesan, and community events. Those seeking to have information included in the bulletin need to submit their request to the parish office by noon on the preceding Monday. Current and previous bulletins are also available on the parish web-site.
Parish Pastoral Council Member:
Members form a consultative body offering input to the Pastor and staff concerning all aspects of parish life. All parishioners (registered at least one year) can be nominated. Nominees must attend at least three meetings and an orientation session prior to being considered for the post. After completion of the nomination process, they are eligible for the selection process which is completed during a prayer service in the May or June Council meetings. The service is a three-year commitment, which can be renewed once.
Office Help:
Volunteer help is greatly appreciated to answer the phones, greet visitors, perform light typing, copying, etc. when the Parish Secretary is unavailable due to vacations, illness, career enrichments, etc.
Mailings:
With over 500 families in the parish, special mailings can quickly add up to lots of light manual work, including affixing postage, folding, collating, sorting, etc. A lot of hands can make the extra work that much lighter! Please consider offering your time and talents in these special endeavors, and contact the parish office.
Baking:
Occasionally, the parish is in need of bakers to provide muffins, pies, cakes, candies, etc. when conducting raffles, fund-raisers, mercy meals, etc. Please contact the parish office to find out how you can contribute.
Sewing & Designers:
Sewers and seamstresses who can mend robes or help make costumes for special events are greatly appreciated by this commission. Please contact the office to find out ways you can help.
Tradesman Skills:
At any give time, the parish may need specialized craftsmen to perform plumbing, carpentry, electrical skills, etc. If you have the talent, and occasionally the time, please consider registering with the parish to help out in emergency instances.
Computer Skills:
If you can donate time, resources or equipment to assist our parish in keeping current with computer technology, the Good Shepherd web site, office equipment decisions, etc., please contact the parish office where your skills will be greatly appreciated
